We spent a week or so doing all the last minute things we do before a trip. Invariably, some things are forgotten. Many such things we probably don’t yet know about.

Finally, we’re off. We stay overnight at a Caravan Club Location near Ashford, ready for an easy run down to Dover in the morning for a 10am Ferry crossing.

All goes to plan; we arrive at Dover in plenty of time and soon enough we’re arriving at Dunkerque. It’s about 1pm local time, and without further ado, we’re off towards Germany.

Naturally, it’s raining. It’s always raining here. So we drive through the rain for hours, then for more hours. We’re headed for Hamburg, where I’d like to visit Miniatur Wunderland, a model railway big enough to require a warehouse to keep it.

We were going nicely until we reached the ring around Antwerp, then took one and a half hours to do 10 miles. . On through the Netherrlands and into Germany, where the long day catches up with me and finally I must have a sleep.

A brief rest, then we continue, finally stopping for the night just before 11pm, a little short of Munster. After a long day all the way from Ashford in Kent, we were exhausted. Add to that the steady rain, heavy traffic, and high speed (at least until we hit Antwerp), and we were glad to call it a day.
